As the sole event within the B_Tour festival requiring a total stand-still, Recreation Ground Berlin took place on Saturday. Participants were asked to consider Köpi Brache whilst re-enacting the artist's impression of the failed development plan, lead by HOCHTIEF - one of Germany and the world's largest developers and building companies. Participants included members of Teepee Land, which borders the site; the Bulgarian community squatting close to the wasteland; and members of the broader public.
Mathew Trivett directed the photoshoot whilst David Bell, Clara Stein and Alex Head interviewed participants about their thoughts, hopes and fears regarding the wasteland. Interviews will be edited into a radio essay exploring the three wastelands studied through Recreation Ground whilst images will be exhibited as part of Wasteland Twinning Nottingham's exhibition in the autumn.
A huge thanks is owed to everyone who made the event possible. In particular we should mention Kristin Anschütz and Stefka Tsaneva for translation and interpretation; Ferdiansyah Thajib and Clara Stein for project development; and Samuel Kalika for documentary photography. Many thanks to everyone at b_tour and Slow Travel Berlin for promoting the event.
