The Island
As the Olympic Torch passes through Nottingham towards the Olympic ceremony, researchers from the Wasteland Twinning network will stage a day of international sports activity as part of their ongoing action-research into land use and classification.
Appropriating the wasteland as adventure playground, recreation space and dangerous play area; you are invited to join a team for a friendly rounders tournament and open conversation around key questions raised by the project.
This event forms part of Nottingham Contemporary's What is Sport? programme.
Developed from ongoing conversations with curator Beth Bramich and the wider Wasteland Twinning Network about wasteland sites as spaces of recreation and for the formation of temporary communities.
