On Saturday 7 September, WTN joined the festivities arranged by Stichting Het Stenen Hoofd’s 25th anniversary on Het Stenen Hoofd. The Stichting or foundation have succeeded in preventing development on the site for 25 years and were also interviewed in the previous week by David Bell and Alex Head as part of Brownfield Narratives. Exerts from the Brownfield Narratives project were played through sets of wireless headphones distributed to the public for the duration of the event. On a second channel commissioned works by Janneke van der Putten and Alonso Vazquez could be heard as visitors traversed the site.
Commissioned Audio Works
Janneke van der Putten - Imaginary Landscape No. 1
A composition that creates time and space for contemplation and which is inspired by mornings spent on the beach at Het Stenen Hoofd. Field recordings made on the site are mimicked, filtering the sonic landscape through the voice. The becomes a theatre, like Het Stenen Hoofd.
Alonso Vazques - Soundcards from Het Stenen Hoofd
Soundcards are audio postcards: aural snapshots of a place that function as tools for social exchange. Mimicking the format of the classic postcard, they traverse the space between the material, personal and social realms to open up new avenues for the exploration of the sound in the city.
