One of the desolate places in Plovdiv lies in the north of the city centre, located in the river Maritsa. The deserted island called "Adata" basically is a green area between the city centre and the perypherie of Bulgarias second largest city. Beeing a untouched area since many years, Adata not only has turned into a jungle in the very heart of the city – it is almost forgotten by its citizens: The hidden and inaccessible area remains to the view of vehicle drivers and pedestrians passing the Adata Bridge, a road bridge renovated in 2007. As physical access is only possible by crossing a little stairway leading down from the road bridge Boulavard Severen. Actually almost nobody seems wanting to go there, hence the area lacks of interaction and adherence with its citizens.

The foundation Plovdiv together for 2019, candidate of the european capital of culture, is planning to implement a first aestetic reseach of the unused island to reinact the area, to reconnect it with the river and with the citizens of Plovdiv. As lots of parts of the river Maritsa have no important value for the city this step of exploration of Adata Island can also be seen as a symbol considering the potential of the natural ressources of Plovdiv. Further also this potential is thought to open a space for alternative tourism, artistic residencies, ecological research and freetime activieties.
To access the island there is a stairway down from the crossing brigde. To access the bridge one has to climb up the pedestrian area on the "Boulevard Severen"
